Crap Idol

I've tried avoding it but this bit of popular South African culture is unavoidable. Each day I'm confonted by it like a huge zit on my nose that I just can't squeeze.

I'm referring to"Idols the SA version of the British "Pop Idol" ...The only difference being that in the South African version the producers forget to tell the starry-eyed hopefuls that their success, once the show ends will be limited.

In Three seasons of Idols there've been a couple of exceptions but for the most part participants disappear off the radar once they're out of the public conciousness.

I should also add that a majority of South Africans couldn't give a fuck about the show as it is clearly aimed at the white demographic, this means that any black person wishing to take part in the show already starts off on the backfoot because white viewers will vote them off first, it should be said there have been exceptions but in the two previous seasons of the show no black person has won it...Last year a talentless white girl from the Free State won it...nothing has been heard of her eversince even though her prize included a recording contract( I can make records in my bedroom using a Mac and ProTools).

The first winner, Heinz Winckler, has retained some public persona but isn't known outside his traditional white market...and he was supposed to be a Pop star. Sorry, but South African popular music is kwaito and hip-hop not some half-baked talentless shite that no-one will remember come this time next year.

The current crop participating on Idols are just a bunch of glorified karaoke singers
